Priya Gill, Therapist

Approach

My name is Priya Gill (she/her) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with the British Columbia Association for Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I have a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology (hons.) and during this time I worked with self identified female survivors of violence. I then went to pursue my Master of Counselling Psychology from Adler University, where I focused my studies on trauma resolution, systemic violence, and addictions.

Though I hold a graduate degree, I am committed to continually growing as an individual and a professional. As such, I am currently enrolled in the Compassionate Inquiry postgraduate program with Dr. Gabor Mate. Additionally, I also am training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). As a clinical, I draw upon a person centered, mind body approach grounded in the celebration of each person’s uniqueness. I use evidence based techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness body-based therapies.

While supporting you through the challenges you are facing, my goal is to equip you with effective tools to manage your symptoms, and assist you as you tune into your inner wisdom, resilience and capacity to heal. I view myself as a co healer, walking alongside your life’s journey.

When authentic, attuned and compassionate connection is present, people allow themselves to be truly seen

Trauma Informed Work

Trauma is an integrated experience between mind, body, and environment. Over the years I have worked with some of the most marginalized people in Canada and have great empathy and understanding for those struggling within the context of our current social system. Oppression injures the core self and this kind of habitual stress wears down mental and physical resources, leaving individuals and communities disconnected from their core selves and one another.
Decolonizing trauma work means providing space for this oppression to be processed in the therapeutic space. It also means that systematic oppression needs to be dismantled on an individual and societal level. Trauma and healing aren’t just private experiences, sometimes trauma is collective and communal work.

Central to decolonizing healing and therapy is the process of unravelling, peeling back and undoing what has already been done. I am always open to feedback on new and creative ways of working together.
