Priya Gill, Vancouver Therapist

About Me

Hello, my name is Priya Gill (she/her/hers) and I am an Anti Oppression Trauma Focused Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and consultant offering services on xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh(Tsleil-Waututh) land. I have a BA in Criminology (hons.) from Simon Fraser University and Master of Counselling Psychology from Adler University.

I draw upon over 9 years of experience supporting survivors of violence and 5 years of direct one to one mental health support. I am sensitive to the intersections of identity and have supported people from all backgrounds, degrees of power, privilege, marginalization, and have great empathy for people from all walks of life.  I center my workaround a compassionate, non-judgmental, intersectional, and anti-oppression philosophy. I also draw upon evidence based approaches including . Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Compassionate Inquiry with Dr. Gabor Mate, Internal Family Systems/parts work.

The therapeutic space is sacred and my job as a healer is to walk alongside you on your path to empowerment and healing. I work with individuals who are seeking a safe space to reclaim their voice, connect with their resilience, and empower themselves. Some come to me to explore relationship issues and work on communication and boundary setting. Others come to explore heritage and racial identity - unpacking ancestry, inter generational trauma, and the impact of social systems. Others seek to process gender based violence, sexual violence, trauma, anxiety, depression, and/or substance use.

It is important to me to show up as an authentic human, not only as a therapist. I hope to share with you my sense of humor, and wisdom I have been taught from my education, mentors, colleagues, clients, elders, and loved ones.

When authentic, attuned and compassionate connection is present, people allow themselves to be truly seen

Oppression Informed Work

I am a cis-gendered, non-disabled, queer questioning, working middle class, brown, settler woman working on xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh(Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) land. My family immigrated from India and my generational line has experienced great violence. These identities and experiences provide me access to different levels of power and privilege, which impact my world view.

As a clinician and human I am committed to on going learning surrounding my relationship to power and privilege, and hold myself accountable to listening, learning, and understanding the lived experiences of my clients.
Anti Oppression work means providing space for power and privilege, and intersections of identity to be unpacked within the therapeutic space. This also includes addressing the power dynamics within and outside the therapeutic spaces. It also means recognizing that healing and change needs to occur systemically in  the collective and communal spaces we navigate.

Central to  healing and therapy is the process of unravelling, peeling back and undoing what has already been done. I am always open to feedback on new and creative ways of working together.
