Priya Gill Therapy

I am a therapist, a life long student, consultant and facilitator. Therapeutically - I offer a trauma informed and wellness-centered approach to self exploration, healing, and growth.

My name is Priya Gill  (she/they) and I am an Anti Oppression Trauma Focused Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Educator and Consultant offering services on xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh(Tsleil-Waututh) land.

Connecting with a therapist is a huge step towards your personal journey in growth and healing. Having connected with therapists myself, I know it takes trust and safety within the therapeutic relationship to explore yourself, ask yourself the hard questions, and connect with healing.

I am formally trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) Level One. and Psychedelic Assisted Therapies (MDMA and Psilocybin).  In addition to my professional training. I draw upon the wisdom from my own healing, my teachers, mentors, peers, elders, and clients. and have been taught that the most powerful medicine in this world is compassion and love.

My therapeutic approach draws upon a balance between evidence-based and wellness-focused approaches - grounded in the celebration of each person's unique capacity for healing and tapping into their innate wisdom.

Central to my work are the principles of anti-oppression, intersectionality, harm reduction,  sex positivity, love, and humor. My practice is informed by my professional accolades, lived experiences, and wisdom taught to me by my loved ones, clients, and mentors. I am sensitive to the intersections of identity and have supported people from all backgrounds, degrees of power, privilege, marginalization, and have great empathy for people from all walks of life. The therapeutic space is sacred, and my job is to walk alongside you on your path to empowerment and healing.

My clinical practice and framework is depth oriented and relational - which is to say that I seek to support people who wish to get to the root source of whatever concerns they bring to therapy. I emphasize the importance of integration and normalize the ebbs and flows that come with transformative change.

Principles and Values that Guide My Work

Intersectionality
Intersectionality, coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw is a framework that takes into account how cultural influences and their relationships to power and privilege show up in: age, ability,, spirituality and religion, sexual orientation, sex, gender, ethnicity, race, national origin, and social class.

Anti Oppression
I acknowledge that as a therapist, I hold power in the therapeutic relationship.I have worked with some of the most marginalized people in Canada and have great empathy and understanding for those struggling within the context of our current socio-economic-political system.  I draw upon over 13 years of experience supporting people from all backgrounds, degrees of power, privilege, and marginalization, and have great empathy and adoration for people. I am sensitive to the intersections of identity and have supported people from all backgrounds, degrees of power, privilege, marginalization, and have great empathy for people from all walks of life. To be anti-oppression means not shying away from naming and unpacking how these systems impact our day to day lives. This work means I validate your experiences without pathologizing your trauma and work as an ally to support you.

Humor

Cultural Humility
Equity and inclusion means that I hope to open up space for us to discuss what is going on between us within the therapeutic relationship. I do not demand you trust me, I hope to earn it in an ongoing process by creating a safe and warm environment for you.

Respect
Healing comes when we are provided space to process our feelings and emotions, rather than dismissing them, pushing them aside, or finding ways to numb them out. Respect is a necessary ingredient in creating a safe, non-judgemental environment from which you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and create new perspectives and understandings of yourself. All parts of you are welcome in the therapeutic space.

Compassion
Compassion and empathy are necessary for growth and healing. Sometimes it is easier for us to have compassion for others, but not ourselves. My approach is to explore why this may be, and support you by creating a safe and compassionate environment to have these hard conversations. When we experience compassion we allow ourselves to truly be seen.
